If this is a fact, then it would be not very surprising that you have a faster recovery in the anesthetized animals. Krieglstein: This is right. It was a little bit surprising for us to see that the influence of the ischemic effect is relatively small. You have to remember that the energy charge is not so much reduced, but it is significantly reduced. Hossmann: Did you try longer periods of ischemia? Krieglstein: No, we used this perfusion medium with fluorocarbon already a few months. In the beginning we used a simplified blood.
You suggested a hypothesis that mitochondrial metabolism may be altered. Have you some direct evidence about this? Hoyer: I think it is no question that the glycolytic metabolism is the metabolism of the cytoplasm and the oxydative metabolism is the metabolism of the mitochondria, and we know some substances which may influence the oxydative metabolism and from this we conclude that it's the damage of the mitochondrial function. -A. Hossmann Max-Planck-Institut fur Hirnforschung, Forschungsstelle fur Hirnkreislaufforschung, Ostmerheimstr.
Since, if you applicate this vincristine intraperitoneally or subcutaneously, you many observe general and severe disturbances in the animals (which we discarded from this study), and therefore we changed our methods. Now we applicate this vincristine over a burr hole in the extradural space at very low amounts and as a very low volume. The first investigations showed the same results as shown here. Mandel: May I ask you a question? You suggested a hypothesis that mitochondrial metabolism may be altered.
