Called HD 40307g (planets are named after their host star, with a lower case letter after starting with b), it’s in the "super-Earth" range: more massive than Earth, but less than, say Neptune (which is 17 times our mass). When we look at galaxies really far away, we see them as they were when they were younger, because it takes a long time for their light to reach us.

Gamma-ray bursts are the most violent events in the Universe: During the death of a massive star, its core collapses into a black hole, generating energies so huge they defy adjectival description. So, weirdly, once Vulcan collapsed into a black hole, the gravity felt by the orbiting ships didn’t change! For non-EC nationals the same criterion as above applies PLUS the student must have been granted the right of permanent residence in the UK by the Home Office before 1 September in the year the course starts.

NGC 247 displays one unusual feature — it is not visible in this image, but can be seen clearly in wider views of the galaxy. Simulations have now reached the size and mass scales relevant for direct modelling of GC system formation in a cosmological context. A few observatories have been constructed, such as the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observatory LIGO.
